- Keep good key control!! Always know how many keys you have to your location and who has them!
- For added security, have a key control locking system installed at your location (such as Medeco, Assa, or our Hicks Restricted System). This will stop any unauthorized keys being copied. If you can account for all your keys, you won’t need to re-key.
- Periodically inspect all the locks in your business. Do they work smoothly? Can the doors be pried open? Are the door closers operating properly? If you find any problems, call for service immediately!
- It’s a good idea to position your safe in clear view and secure it to the floor if possible. Keep track of who has the combination to your safe. Change the combination often, but not at regular intervals. ALWAYS double check to make sure the safe door is locked after you have shut it!
- If you have an electronic lock on your safe, program a time delay into it. Be sure to have signs posted stating that your safe is time delayed and can not be opened immediately.
- Keep your windows free of any obstructions. Check to make sure that you don’t have any dark areas outside your doors. The more light, the safer you are.
- Install peepholes in back doors so you can see who’s out there before you open that door.
- Always vary the route and times that you or your employees make the bank runs. Don’t keep a routine!! You don’t want someone to know that you go to the bank around the corner everyday at 3:00 pm.
- If you are robbed, please remember that valuables can be replaced but you can’t! Always protect yourself and let the robber have what they want.
